Grouse
and Woodcock The lower Miramichi
watershed has excellent habitat for ruffed grouse
and woodcock. Old settlements and farm fields
have been overgrown with alders, thorn apples,
poplars and birch. These areas make up a
substantial portion of the land base. In
addition, there are thousands of miles of woods
roads through hardwood and mixed forests.
The Ledges Inn
offers you a wing shooting experience like you
have never had. Your guides are compulsively
focused in their effort to provide you with the
finest wing shooting for grouse and woodcock.
Since bird populations fluctuate from year to
year, and covert to covert, you can never have
enough good quality coverts. Ledges Inn guides
are relentless and scientific in their search for
new coverts to ensure your hunting pleasure.
|
Historic
averages show grouse flushes are about 1 ½ per hour, but
with high variability, and woodcock flushes, dependent on
flight bird strength, average 35-40 birds per day. You
are welcome to bring your own dogs, or you may work
behind our slow, close working Britneys, English
Pointers, or Irish Setters at no extra cost.
"Limited
out on ducks, took a woodcock and landed a 25lb
salmon on the same day all that between
three wonderful meals. Thanks everyone!"
W. Reed, Tennesse,

Waterfowl If you like, you can
include an early morning duck hunt into your wing
shooting day. The surrounding area offers superb
waterfowl hunting, but it is only at its best
very early in the morning. For a few hours after
day break you and your guide can hunt back bogans
and eddys, where Black ducks, Woodys, Blue
& Green Teal, Mallards and Merganzers feed.
You might even find a Canada Goose on the fly-by.
After this early
morning hunt, you come back to the Inn for brunch
and then back to the wilderness for grouse and
woodcock or pheasant.

Pheasant
Preserve
The Ledges Inn has its
own private, 200 acre pheasant preserve. It is specially
managed, and only minutes away from the Inn. The preserve
is designed to keep the released birds in the preserve
area by providing all the food the birds need. Hedge rows
of corn, high bush cranberries are all in plenty for the
birds prosperous survival. As a result, there are a
lot of wild pheasant on the grounds and we release more
on a daily basis. This combination results in a
successful and exciting hunt for guests.
