Things to see & do in our area

Welcome to the beautiful Miramichi River Valley area! We’re a small but mighty area in the very center of the province of New Brunswick. The world-famous Miramichi River runs through the heart of the entire valley, which encompasses three communities (the Rural Community of Upper Miramichi, Doaktown, and Blackville). The Ledges is located in Doaktown but it’s a very short (and worthwhile!) trip between the three communities to truly take it all in! Here are a few of our biggest recommendations on things to see and do, along with a list of some necessities you might need to find while visiting our neck of the woods!

Click on a specific category, or scroll down to see them all! (Did we miss something? There’s a form at the bottom of this page where you can make suggestions!)

LANDMARKS

FALL BROOK FALLS

The tallest continually running waterfall in the entire province of New Brunswick! It is a short hike into the falls but it’s more than worth it! The gate to the falls is open from Spring-Fall and it’s beautiful no matter the season! (There is a charge of $10/car at the gate). (Located near Boiestown, 51km from The Ledges.)

PRICEVILLE/
MCNAMEE FOOTBRIDGE

The longest suspension footbridge in the province, spanning the river between the communities of Priceville and McNamee. Be sure to stop and read the tragic history of the original bridge that stood in it’s place before this one was built in 1988. (Located between Boiestown and Doaktown, just 12km from The Ledges.)

TRAIL SYSTEM

GO GEOCACHING

Have you ever looked into this worldwide “treasure hunt”? It’s pretty neat! And there’s lots of them hidden around our little area! (Often near some of the landmarks mentioned so you might even be able to combine the two!) An especially great activity for families.
You can find all of the information, and the map, here.

GO TO THE PARK

All three communities have their own park, each located in the heart of it’s respective community and near many of the other attractions we’ve already mentioned. All make a great place to stop for a picnic lunch, or to let the kids burn off some steam.

Photo 1- The Upper Miramichi Community Park has several kms of beautiful wooded walking trails, a large playground area, a splash pad, outdoor exercise equipment, and a sports dome for basketball or tennis (that also becomes a skating rink in the winter time!)

Photo 2- The Doaktown Community Park is located directly across from Tim Hortons and offers a small playground area and splash pad, several picnic tables, and an outdoor stage where there are events happening throughout the year.

Photo 3- The Blackville Community Park has beautiful walking trails that often wind along the river, a large playground area, and several benches and picnic tables placed throughout welcoming anyone to stop and enjoy the scenery.
