Seasons

Spring Salmon Fishing

Our spring fishery lasts about 3 weeks, and commences as soon as the ice is out of the river; around April 15th. You can anticipate plenty of action this time of year.

A typical day of spring fishing begins with a hearty breakfast and a fresh cup of coffee in the dining room. Your guide pulls up with their motorboat directly in front of the Lodge around 8:00 am to pick you up.

Your guide will take you to various areas along the river. You may stay in one spot for a while as you cast and land fish, or your guide may move you along to a new place where there is more activity.

The typical spring fishing day usually ends between 4 and 5 pm.

Summer & Fall Fishing

Beginning in mid-June, one of the world’s largest runs of salmon begins on the Miramichi and continues until autumn. Beginning their journey in the ocean, Atlantic salmon, along with various species of trout, travel back to the rivers and streams of their origin to spawn on the gravel beds during this period. On the Miramichi River, salmon travel continuously all summer, and a new rush arrive again in the fall.

The key to successful summer fishing is the pool you fish in. When the summer heat arrives, the water temperatures rise and the water level drops. The salmon converge in cold-water pools to better tolerate these conditions.

The Ledges offers its guests some of the best cold-water pools on the Miramichi River, along with an able guide to help ensure your success. Flo’s, Mountain Channel, and Harris Ledge Pool, are three examples of our privately owned cold-water pools; only guests at Ledges have access to them.
